What are the different deal types?

With beatBread, artists have the freedom to customize their advance to fit what deal terms work best for them.

Artists have the ability to customize every aspect of their deal – from what music is included, to how much monthly income an artist will keep, to how long the deal lasts. There are literally hundreds of deal structure combinations that artists can choose from, and we will never tell an artist which deal they have to take.

It’s just one more way we’re leaving control exactly where it belongs – with artists.

Select what music is included in your deal

beatBread allows artists to choose whether they want to leverage just their catalog, or bet on themselves with both catalog and new music.

Catalog only deals

Artists can take advantage of their past hard work by getting the most value out of their catalog now with beatBread. “Catalog” means music that has already been released at the time of your beatBread deal.

Artists can take advantage of their past hard work and put their catalog to work for them as they focus on new music

Catalog and new music deals

If you choose a deal structure that includes “New Music”, the new music is released after you’ve signed your contract. Future releases are not part of Catalog ONLY deals and you hold on to the streaming income for all future releases. We have deal structures for Catalog plus five new songs or 10 new songs (plus options for 5 or 10 additional songs), and you don’t have to release the tracks all at once.

For example, you can utilize a catalog only deal to help pay for your next release or if you need funding now but still want to shop your next release around to labels. Or, you can put new music to work for you when you have a new music release ready to go and want to receive funding while retaining ownership.

Adding new music to your deal gives you a larger advance than taking a Catalog Only deal.

Choose how long it lasts

Artists determine the term length of their beatBread deal, and our algorithm determines the most amount of funding an artist can be advanced that gives them the best chance of recouping within the timeline they chose. If for whatever reason an artist doesn’t recoup by their chosen term length, the deal simply extends until fully recouped. There is no penalty or interest if a deal isn’t recouped in the exact amount of time an artist chooses.

Deals range from one year to eight years. The largest deal will also be the longest, and the shorter-term lengths will offer the most flexibility – ultimately, deciding between term lengths is all about what’s best for you.

Decide how much income you keep during your deal

All advances are repaid from a share of streaming and airplay revenues, artists choose how much income they keep during their term.

Unlike a label deal, which typically takes 80%-plus cut of the revenue, beatBread offers better recoupment rates that allows artists to recoup faster and receive the lion’s share of income post-recoupment before the term ends.
