How indie-pop artist Katie Buxton used beatBread to create art exactly how she wants
For indie-pop artist Katie Buxton, staying independent meant more than freedom — it means that she can create her art exactly as she imagines it.
"To me, being an independent artist means autonomy, creative freedom and control, and the ability to prioritize my connection with my listeners and also myself," she said.
All she needed was the funding to do it.
"I realized I needed funding when I started getting all of these big ideas for videos that I wanted to create," she said. "The only thing standing in between me and making those a reality was the funding. I was looking into different options but a lot of those options came with signing into contracts that were either really long-term or really restrictive. When I found out about beatBread, it really just made sense."
Buxton used her beatBread advance to shoot her music videos exactly how she imagined.
"It came out better than I could have ever imagined. I don't know if I would have been able to make it possible without the funding from beatBread. "
